The Jets have signed former Carolina Panthers’ offensive lineman Will Montgomery to take Justin Miller’s place on the roster. This likely a temporary move as the Jets will certainly need to sign a DB (hence the Hawkins and James workouts) to replace Miller in the secondary.
TJB’s JMattera posts a scouting report on the reserve offensive lineman.

Dave Hutchinson of the Star-Ledger is reporting that DB Justin Miller is out for the season. Miller suffered ligament damage in his right knee Sunday against the Ravens when returning a kickoff in the second quarter.
Wallace Wright, Brad Smith and Leon Washington are the immediate candidates to replace Miller in the kick return game.
The return game can be compensated for, but Mller’s injury combined with David Barrett’s ineffectiveness and Andre Dyson’s injury severely hurts the Jets in the secondary. This is not good for a group that was already struggling with it’s overall effectiveness.

Well, cut down day has come and gone and 22 players are officially ex-Jets. The list is as follows:
RB Alvin Banks
OT Marko Cavka
CB Manny Collins
LB Blake Costanzo
WR Chris Davis
OT Na’Shan Goddard
DE Bobby Hamilton
DE Michael Haynes
CB Alphonso Hodge
WR Frisman Jackson
OL Dominic Moran
WR Evan Prall
QB Brett Rafliff
LB Anthony Schlegel
S Jamie Thompson
G Robert Turner
LB Jason Trusnik
S Raymond Ventrone
C Joe Villani
DE Kimo von Oelhoffen
LB Andre Wadsworth
RB Danny Ware
As a lot of people are, I’m surprised that Ware didn’t make the squad, and I’m kind of surprised Ventrone didn’t make it, although I suspect both were some of the final handful of guys let go. I’m glad to see they cut Kimo and Schlegel but I’m sorry to see Costanzo and Wadsworth go, even though it was totally necessary. Keeping Tuiasasopo was a good move (never thought I’d say that).

In order to go the N.F.L.-mandated roster limit of 75, the Jets released 8 players Monday, including WR/PR Tim Dwight. Dwight was signed last offseason to a four year, $4.20 million deal. His release seemed likely, however, considering that Dwight had spent the entire preseason on the physically unable to perform list (PUP) with a foot injury.
Also released were DE Darrell Adams, DT Zarnell Fitch, RB Tony Hollings, CB Rayshaun Kizer, WR Dante Ridgeway, OL Nick Smith and WR Juan Wong.

Rich Cimini of the Daily News has reported that the deal is done and Kendall is on his way to an undisclosed N.F.L. team for an undisclosed draft pick.
ProFootballTalk.com has word that the team is the Washington Redskins (who pay a visit to the Meadowlands this season) and that the pick is a fourth round pick.
So Kendall is out of the picture and Jacob Bender, Adrien Clarke or someone to be named is in. Well, the truth is that the trade had to be made. He’s out of the division, out of the conference and out of the Jets’ collective hair. However, the line is now significantly weaker without Kendall and Da Brick and Mangold have lost their mentors–a fact that cannot be overlooked. On the other hand, a fourth round pick for a 35-year-old offensive lineman obviously not wanting to be in New York is a hefty haul–if the report is true. Jets fans would have to applaud GM Mike Tannenbaum if that is the case. I don’t know if the Jets truly believe in Bender, but this trade definitely makes it look like it.
More on this to follow.
UPDATE 11:44 a.m.: Jets Central is reporting that the Skins don’t have a fourth round pick in the 2008 draft. I’m trying to verify this, so when I do I’ll let you know.
UPDATE 12:21 p.m.: It’s official. Kendall to Washington as reported by Randy Lange on NewYorkJets.com. No word still on the exact pick involved.
UPDATE 12:24 p.m.: The Washington Post reports the pick is a 4th or 5th rounder in 2009 as the Skins have already parted with their fourth round pick this year as part of a previous trade.
UPDATE 2:02 p.m.: Dennis Waszak of the Associated Press is reporting the Jets will receive a fifth round pick in 2008 or a fourth round pick in 2009.

The Jets released undrafted rookie safety James Inhedigbo and traded linebacker John Mackey to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for an undisclosed draft pick (most likely a seventh rounder).
The moves are likely preemptive roster cuts in an attempt to get down to the 75-man roster limit that is coming in the next few days. The trade is a peculiar one from the Tampa side, considering Mackey was a free agent less than two weeks go and they had originally signed Mackey on May 3rd as an undrafted free agent. However, the Bucs have had injuries to two players and probably liked the fact that they were familiar with Mackey. Good move on the Jets part, turning an undrafted free agent into a draft pick, however low or high it may be.
Any insights?

Almost got you with that title, didn’t I? Okay, not really but I thought I’d give a shot. Anyhow, the Jets have waived offensive lineman Stanley Daniels just four days after signing him (Hope he didn’t unpack).

The Jets cut former college basketball player Jesse Pellot-Rosa and Nick Mangold doppleganger Andrew Wicker. Both were long shots to make the team so this move should come as no surprise. It should be interesting to see if the Jets attempt to sign Pellot-Rosa to the practice squad because he showed some promise at times but fell victim to the fact that the Jets are very deep at receiver.
To replace Pellot-Rosa on the roster, the Jets signed free agent wide receiver Dante Ridgeway, who had two catches for the Jets in 2005.

Multiple roster changes are a annual rite of passage for N.F.L. teams in August and the Jets are involved as much as anyone.
The Jets have signed two and cut two.
Mannenbaum cut punter Jason Kapinos and offensive tackle Ed Blanton. Blanton comes as a bit of a surprise, seeing as how he spent all of last season on the practice squad and was even active for the playoff game against New England.
The Jets replaced Blanton with rookie Nick Smith (a TJB fav) and signed cornerback Manny Collins of Rutgers to compete for time in the secondary.

The Jets have signed former supplemental pick RB Tony Hollings. Terms were not disclosed.
Hollings was out of football last season after being waived by the Indianapolis Colts in training camp last year.
Hollings figures as a depth back/veteran insurance policy in case rookie Danny Ware falls off.
